Photos - February
Today marks two years to the day since Sam and I met. This morning we sat at the breakfast table while I told Sam the story of that wonderful day and showed him pictures. He loves hearing the story and likes to tell me that while he was waiting for me to come to Kazakhstan, he sat in his crib in the Baby House and said "Where are you Mama?!"
For a look at where we've come from, read the post -- Meeting Zhenya (Sam) - and go through the Photo Album from March 1, 2005.
Then Now
As to life in the present, we had a busy month yet again. For President's Day, Sam, Grandad and I went up to Maclean, Virginia to visit Aunt Kelly, Uncle Juergen and the cousins. As luck would have it, the D.C. area was experiencing an unusual winter storm and the kids got to play in the snow and go sledding in the neighborhood We even took a trip to the National Zoo where we sat outside at the picnic tables (in 33 degree weather) and ate our sandwiches while the snow fell on us.
A trip to the doctor's office this month had Sam check in at 39 1/2 inches tall and 38 lbs. He's not gaining weight, but he keeps getting taller. At this point, he's completely off the growth chart for height and at around 75% for weight. I keep hearing from people that I should be prepared for football coaches to start calling me when he's in elementary school. Yikes. He does love everything to do with balls and recently told me he's going to play baseball, basketball and tennis when he gets a little bigger. No mention of football yet, thank goodness.
Sam's vocabulary continues to expand and his speech patterns are oftentimes quite adult. The other day he asked me why he had thanked someone for something. I said "because it was the polite thing to do." He looked at me quite seriously and said, "I have nice manners." It took everything I had not to burst out laughing!
